A research model centred on the promotion of people’s health
The reception and follow up of Italian and foreign citizens require constant and in-depth analysis.
The central element of all the activities of the NIHMP, including research, is a comprehensive approach to the persons, based on transculturality and multidisciplinarity, through an integrated teamwork of different professionals, a kind of approach without comparison on the Italian territory and ethically not so common. Therefore, since many years, the NIHMP has been carrying on a series of national and international research projects on the subjects of health, human mobile population, poverty-related and re-emergent diseases.
The main objective is to create a homogeneous approach, shared goals and continuous interchange by equally involving doctors, nurses, anthropologists, biologists, epidemiologists, dietists, computer experts, engineers, transcultural mediators, psychologists, sociologists, statisticians in a harmonic scheme where every activity, both assistance and research, is focused on the person.
Since the beginning of its work, the NIHMP followed three main lines, i.e.:
A) Clinical research;
B) Research on assistance models;
C) Operational research in developing countries, which means the research activities aimed at transferring competences, technology and organisational models experimented in the North of the world, and at adjusting them to the different local needs.
The strength of our research work is the commitment to the experimentation of assistance models aimed at tackling inequalities in the access to health care services in the North and in the South of the world. Another key element of our work is excellence clinical research, which is pivotal in developing innovative assistance models and - in the framework of a Global Health approach - research and health care in developing countries.
A significant outcome of our work is the publication of a number of scientific papers and books, both in Italian and in English, the best way to foster knowledge and to raise awareness on the main issues we deal with in our daily activity.
