Poverty and Health: perspectives on the development of the Health Service of Latium Region

NIHMP and the Latium Council Office organized the meeting “Poverty and Health: perspectives on the development of the Health Service of Latium Region”.
Disadvantaged population groups produce a deep change in social and health services. NIHMP and the Latium Council Office took this opportunity to exchange views with various health and social structures in order to set up a policy fit to avoid inequalities, based on the work of qualified operators and focused on the health care of people.
It is necessary to modify the public health service in order to meet the new requests of the society. Manager and operators can no longer defer the update the social and health system.
The aim of the meeting is to develop and further the debate on the problems affecting health policies in the new social scenario registering more than 500 thousand foreigners in Latium Region – mostly concentrated in Rome – and a national impoverishment affecting 975 families, one out of five in Latium Region.
The participation in the meeting of local authorities, social organizations and associations involved in health field is meant to face the new social and demographic scenario through an appropriate management and a shared work strategy. The objective is to meet the health needs of migrants and indigents living in Latium Region in order to guarantee the health care of all citizens.
