The NIHMP participates in the event “Estremo Occidente”: a concert for Africa by Vittorio Nocenzi

“Estremo Occidente”, a piano concerto performed by Vittorio Nocenzi, from the Italian band “Banco del Mutuo Soccorso” was held on 25 June 2010 in Isernia.
“Estremo Occidente” is the concerto from the disc of the same title by Vittorio Nocenzi and inspired by nine I Ching hexagrams.
The aim of the event is to use music to tell the stories of who is fighting in Africa for health care facilities able to meet the huge demand for assistance.
Participants made a free offer to support health development projects in Africa and to increase the access to health facilities and the treatment of people in need.
Prof. Aldo Morrone, Director General of the National Institute for Health, Migration and Poverty (NIHMP), will describe the ongoing activities in Tigray, where the Institute established and is scientific and training referring institution of the Italian Dermatological Centre (IDC) at the Ayder University Hospital in Mekele, supplied with 30 beds and providing free medical assistance (about 60 examinations per day). Moreover, the opening of the new Paediatric and Maternity Ward at the Civil Hospital of Adigrat is also contributing in enhancing the health conditions of children, which represent the most vulnerable group in Sub-Saharan Africa.
With the objective of improving the health conditions of the local population, a new Hospital for Infectious Diseases with 30 beds will be opened soon in Adishmduhun and training courses for health care workers will be also provided.
The IDC participates in the network of the Italian Hospitals Worldwide and it was awarded in 2006 as the centre sending the highest number of teleconsultations.
To work for the last in order to make the right to health a recognised human right is the commitment of Vittorio Nocenzi and Prof. Aldo Morrone and the objective of this extraordinary concert.
