Opening Ceremony for the new Paediatric and Maternity Ward at Adigrat Hospital in Ethiopia
On 25 March 2010 in Adigrat (Ethiopia) the opening ceremony for the New Paediatric and Maternity Ward at Adigrat City Hospital will be held. The work was realised thanks to the funds received from an Italian philanthropist and to the contribution of the National Institute for Health, Migration and Poverty-NIHMP, the Tigray Health Bureau (THB), IISMAS non-profit association and the Ethiopian NGO THIDA.
The NIHMP is responsible for the scientific supervision of the Ward and will support the Tigray Health Bureau for the organisation of clinical, diagnostic and training activities. It will also provide, for a limited period, one paediatrician and one gynaecologist who will be in charge for the coordination of the clinical activities of the Ward. The new unit will be supplied with: 30 beds, 6 of which dedicated to neonatal medicine; a labour room and a delivery room; special areas for nurses and doctors; a paediatric outpatient department; a register office and a waiting room.
This project represents the prosecution of a long experience of cooperation and solidarity between Italy and Ethiopia and is a remarkable outcome of the joined contribution of private individuals, local communities and public institutions of the two countries for health promotion and for the enhancement of the access to health care services.
Representatives of NIHMP staff, of the Italian financier and a local Italian television will participate in the event. Ethiopian health authorities at the federal, regional and local level and the representatives of administrative and religious institutions of Adigrat have been also invited.
