Crossings: languages and territories of a moving world
XVII International Workshop “culture, health, migration”
“Crossings” is the title of the 17th edition of the Workshop on Culture, Health and Migration organised every year by the NIHMP. Crossings, movements, contacts, questions and discoveries, the never-ending journey of peoples and ideas in a world becoming smaller and smaller, where thinking about ourselves as individuals independent and disconnected from the others is no longer possible.
By crumbling the image of a strictly enclosed universe, science is opening the way to the idea of an ever-changing cosmos composed of interconnected elements. Even before ethics, it is science itself that shows us how everything is related to everything else, and that all living beings are mutually dependent.
This has always been the approach characterising the thirty-year experience of the NIHMP, which taught us that, as all those people compelled to leave their country do, it is necessary also for us to travel, to venture beyond known limits, where contact and dialogue are really possible. It will be easier then to understand that there are no absolute foreigners, that no land of foreigners exists. It will be possible to cooperate for a place where nobody feels foreigner, but a guest of a welcoming World for everybody.
The NIHMP, whose institutional mission is the protection of everybody’s health, and particularly of disadvantaged population groups, intends keeping eyes open and watchful on what is happening today, in order to suitably answer people needs. To increment service offer and quality, to continue experimenting new health assistance models able to take care of people in a comprehensive, multidisciplinary and transcultural way, to promote a peer-based therapeutic relationship contaminating and enriching all the involved actors: this is the passionate everyday challenge of the NIHMP.
The workshop will be an occasion to share and analyse these and other issues with National and International experts and personalities of the health, culture and politics sectors and of the civil society.
We are waiting for you!
