The general objective of the project “Transcultural intervention guidelines for basic health and mother and child assistance” is to improve access and use of social and health care services for foreign people. It includes specific actions aimed at developing, in the involved Local Health Services, an organisational model for providing basic assistance, prevention, mother and child health and integrating basic, territorial and hospital services.
• Organisation of multidisciplinary and transcultural training for the different professionals involved in the project for: improving operators’ knowledge on migrants’ access to services; strengthening communication between health professionals and between them and the migrant population; increasing the effectiveness of the “care relationship” by fostering cooperation and networking between different professionals;
• Simplification of the procedures to access health services by planning and creating paths for holistically and equally taking care of migrants;
• Strengthening of basic health services for migrants and provision of assistance activities through guidance and information centres able to improve the use of social and health care services, also by cooperating with the referral territorial network;
• Creation of specific programmes for promoting the health of migrant women and their children, by particularly focusing on the following issues: voluntary interruption of pregnancy, contraception, pregnancy, childbirth, puerperium and prevention. The objective is to provide an integrated offer of social and health care services based on the interaction between Local Health Services, Institutions, associations and bodies working on the territory.
