Non è solo un tetto! (That's not only a shelter!) - Waiting for “La Notte dei Senza Dimora 2010” (The Homeless Night 2010)
On October 16th, 2010, in the framework of the event “La Notte dei Senza Dimora”, the NIHMP promoted and organised the meeting Non è solo un tetto!.
It was the occasion to discuss about how poverty and social inclusion are experienced in Rome, by listening to the stories of those who appear to be voiceless. At the same time, the event had the objective to attract to our Institute disadvantaged population groups such as homeless people, by facilitating their access to social and health care services and their follow up by Institutions.
The meeting provided speeches by scholars and workers, stories, film projections, food, music and shows. It was a new way of experiencing a health care structure, which has to be seen not only as a place of treatment but also as a meeting point. Convinced that health cannot only be interpreted as lack of diseases but as comprehensive physical, mental and social well-being, we believe that the contact with the others, with their specific knowledge and characteristics, is the only way to overcome indifference and suspicion and to work together for a really inclusive society.
On October 17th, on the occasion of the UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty it was held the annual event "La Notte dei Senza Dimora” (The Homeless Night), a night spent with the homeless people in Piazza dell’Immacolata in Rome.
