Foreigners or citizens of the world? – Social inclusion and transculturality as essential bases for enhancing Italians and foreigners’ health and wellbeing

The National Institute for Health, Migration and Poverty-NIHMP will organise a free cultural promotion event titled Foreigners or citizens of the world? – Social inclusion and transculturality as essential bases for enhancing Italians and foreigners’ health and wellbeing within the 17th International Health Care Exhibition Exposanità. The meeting will be held on 26 May 2010, at 8.30 am at the Palazzo degli Affari - Sala Topazio (P.zza della Costituzione 8, Bologna). The NIHMP will also participate to the event Exposanità by preparing e exhibition stand.
About the event
Migration is deeply changing the Italian society and affecting its welfare needs. Social relationships today imply specific skills, cultural experiences and communication between communities, ethnic groups and individuals with different cultural backgrounds. Therefore, it is crucial for institutions and professionals to develop their transcultural competences in order to enhance social relationships and promote equity, being well aware that migrants constitute an added value in a multiethnic society.
Objectives
• Focus on the reasons leading to migration in order to promote a transcultural approach
• Promote the transcultural approach among welfare managers and operators as a means leading to pursue organisational ethics and actions sustainability
• Explain and share experience on transcultural actions, training and research
• Highlight good practice models carried out in local social and health care services
• Start permanent dialogue and experience exchange between different organisational, training and professional contexts
