"Right to Water, Right to Life" - 1st international day against death from child diarrhoea and for the right to drinkable water

“Diritto all’acqua, diritto alla vita” - I giornata internazionale contro la morte per diarrea infantile e per il diritto all’acqua potabile

The Conference Right to water, right to life - 1st international day against death from child diarrhoea and for the right to drinkable water, organised by the National Institute for Health, Migration and Poverty (NIHMP), will be held on December 23rd, 2010 at the NIHMP. The date of December 23rd is not a casual choice, we decided to commemorate the slaughter of the innocents of Bethlehem remembered in the Roman calendar on December 28th. Based on a comprehensive approach to people, the discussion of medical doctors and researchers will deal with access to drinkable water in the North and the South of the world, water sanitation, market of mineral water, infectious causes of diarrhoea, effectiveness of vaccines and therapies for pathological processes of which diarrhoea is the main symptom.

Infectious acute diarrhoea is a serious public health problem, especially in developing countries, where at least 4 million under-5 deaths are estimated every year. The disease is easily diffused in areas characterised by difficult access to drinkable water, poor sanitation and ineffective services. The NIHMP, in collaboration with the Ethiopian health authorities and with a number of local NGOs, has carried on for many years clinical research and assistance activities in the most difficult areas of the country for combating and reducing the incidence of infectious diseases and related disorders.
