Exhibition “BREAKING THE STEREOTYPE” and convention “MIGRANT EUROPE”

On 10 February 2009 the opening ceremony of “Breaking the Stereotype” took place at NIHMP.
The exhibition, open for three weeks, had the objective to show the process leading to the creation of stereotypes, its outcomes and mechanisms in order to start their deconstruction.
The project was organized in three steps during the period from 2007 to 2010 and had the objective to analyze the stereotypes originating from the relation between Eastern and Western cultures. Their reciprocal cultural representations, found in literature, mass media and everyday life are put into comparison with their self-perception in order to break stereotypes.
On 11 February 2009, in the same place, the meeting “Migrant Europe and a European View of the Other” was organized. In this occasion in-depth research on the mechanisms involved in the creation of interethnic stereotypes was presented. At the end of the meeting the second part of the film “Istanbul Crossroads” was shown.
